The Klarenthal Democracy Week will take place this year from September 22 to 26, 2025 in Wiesbaden-Klarenthal. The program includes a wide range of political, cultural and sporting events.
The kick-off event on Monday, 22.09.2025, begins at 9:45 am with the opening by Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende at the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Schule. Afterwards, the motto of the day will be: „For democracy, against extremism“ – history told by young voices. Pupils from Senftenberg (Brandenburg) will talk about their experiences with right-wing extremism, populism, fake news, anti-Semitism and racism. Part 1 of the reading will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Schule, part 2 will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Klarenthal district center.
On Tuesday, 23.09.2025, the Hessian Minister of Finance, Dr. Alexander Lorz, will hand over the grant. At the same time, an orange bench will be set up in front of the district center – a strong symbol as part of the global „Orange the World„ campaign against violence against women. The benches – made by trainees from the Zonta Club Wiesbaden – are both memorials and contact points. Each bench is provided with a notice board and important help numbers.
A performance of the play „Man muss für Werte eintreten. The murder of Walter Lübcke“ is planned. The play will be performed by the ensemble of the Westfälisches Landestheater, starting at 7 p.m., admission costs €5.00, registration at or by phone via 0611 724 379 20. Walther Lübke was shot dead on the terrace of his house by right-wing extremist Stefan Ernst in 2019. On October 14, 2015, Lübke spoke at an event in Lohfelden about a planned refugee home: „I would say that it is worth living in our country. You have to stand up for values. And anyone who does not stand up for these values can leave this country at any time.“
Thursday, 25.09.2025, is dedicated to two topics:
- The workshop „Dangers online – TikTok & Co. – right-wing extremism in the digital world“ will take place at the Elisabeth Selbert School at 10:15 am. This will focus on right-wing propaganda in social media, for example through memes or TikTok videos. The workshop is run by the Competence Center for the Protection of the Constitution and is aimed at year 8.
- At 15:00, the Klarenthal district café invites you to the reading „Revolt of Conscience“. Claus Fleming will read from Simone Frieling’s haunting portrait „Der Mensch Sophie Scholl – jenseits der Ikone“. The reading shows Sophie Scholl not only as a symbolic figure, but also as a young person with doubts, hopes and inner strength.
The event will conclude on Friday, September 26, 2025, with a sporting highlight: the multi-generational soccer tournament „Kicking for Democracy“ on the sports field of 1. SC Klarenthal, Geschwister-Scholl-Straße 8. From 4:00 p.m., teams from different generations will compete for the ball. The focus is on fair play, team spirit and respect. The tournament will be accompanied by the „Fair Play Hessen“ democracy café.
